Steve Miller Owner, Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer

Steve is the oldest child of Alvis and Doris Miller. He is a 1971 graduate of Rockmart High School and a 1986 graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service. Steve and his parents have owned and operated the funeral home since October 1, 1981. He is married to the former Claudene Hutchings and they have three children: Amber, Chris and Chet.

Doris and Alvis have made their home in Rockmart since 1954. Since 1981 Doris has taken care of the needs of the business office of the funeral home. She is always present to greet families and help with their needs during their stay at the funeral home.

Chris has grown up and lived in Rockmart all of his life. He is the oldest son of Steve and Claudene Miller. Chris went to Rockmart High School and was very active in sports during school. He graduated from RHS in 2005. He then attended Georgia Highlands College where he received his Associates Degree in Business Administration. Chris then attended Gupton-Jones College of Funeral Service where he graduated as the Valedictorian of his class in August 2008.He is a Master Mason and a member of Rockmart Lodge #97 F&AM. He is also a member of the Rockmart Kiwanis Club and is a Past President of the club. Chris is married to the former Kristen Gillespie and they have one daughter, Kinley Claire Miller who was born on April 11, 2012.

Norman Smith Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer

Norman was raised in Cedartown, GA were he continues to reside. Norman has been associated in the funeral business since 1999. He is a graduate of the funeral service program at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama and is licensed by the State of Georgia as a Funeral Director and Embalmer. Norman is married to the former Lori Estes of Rockmart and they have two children Anna-Lauren and Sam. They are devoted members of Cedartown First United Methodist Church.  He joined our staff in January of 2015.

Melton Moss Licensed Funeral Director & Embalmer

A native of Rockmart, Melton was born in 1954 and is a graduate of Rockmart High School. At the age of 18 he felt the call to help care for others through funeral service. He was licensed as a Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1976 and 1977. In 1978 he and a local businessman, Johnny B. Davis established the Davis & Moss Funeral Home which became the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home in 1981. During his long career Melton has been fortunate to serve with many firms, but he says, he is glad to be back home, in a family-owned funeral home, which exemplifies and embodies the call he felt 49 years ago. Rev. David Warriner has been the Pastor of Rockmart Second Baptist Church for over 11 years. He is a native of Pearl, Mississippi and has lived in Georgia since 1996. David holds a Bachelor & Master of Business Administration degree from Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. He and his wife Jenny reside in Dallas. He joined our staff in March of 2013.

Mel Roper Funeral Assistant

Mel has been a resident of Cedartown since 1977 along with his wife Patsy. He is a veteran having served in the United States Air Force and is retired from Floyd Medical Center as buyer of surgical supplies. Mel is currently serving as the Minister of Music for Piedmont Avenue Baptist Church in Rockmart. He enjoys spending with with his grandchildren, music, woodworking, riding his bike and yard work.

Danny is a native of the Polk County community and currently resides in Cedartown with his wife, Becky. They have two children and five grandchildren. Danny was called into the ministry in 1985 and was ordained as pastor in 1993 to serve Crossroads Memorial Baptist Church. He is currently the pastor of Faith Missionary Baptist Church where he has served since 1997.

Colt is the oldest son of Tim and Missy Deems. He has lived in the Aragon and Rockmart area all his life where he was a 2004 graduate of Rockmart High School. After high school he attended Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. He is the Pastor of the Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Aragon. He is a Master Mason and is a member of the Davitte Lodge #513. Colt is married to the former Hillary Streetman and has two children: daughter, Canaan Deems and son, Abel Deems . He currently resides in Aragon. He joined our staff in July of 2011.

Mr. Alvis P. Miller, Jr., age 84, of Rockmart, GA passed away peacefully in a Rome medical center on Sunday, November 16, 2014.

Born in Rome, GA on March 31, 1930 he was the first born child of the marriage of Alvis P. Miller, Sr. and Edna Fowler Miller. He was educated in the Rome City School System graduating from Boy's High class of 1947 where he served as President of the High Y Club. Mr. Miller then attended David Lipscomb College in Nashville, TN. It was during this time in his… life that he felt the call to the ministry. While he preached on Sunday's in Borden Spring's, AL he worked in Rome at the Montgomery Ward Department Store, and later at J. C. Penny Company where he would meet the love of his life Doris Beard.

After their marriage on June 15, 1952 Alvis and Doris Miller made their home in Rome, GA where Alvis served the Fifth Avenue Church of Christ and later the Lindale Church of Christ. In 1954 they moved to Rockmart where he served the Rockmart Church of Christ for five years and then moved to Douglasville where he served the church for two years. In 1960 the family returned to Rockmart where he served the Rockmart congregation again for fourteen years. A very important part of his ministry was his daily radio program, "The Radio Bible Class" which aired on WPLK. During this time in his life in addition to his church work he was involved with the American Red Cross Community Blood Drive serving as chairman for many years, was a member of the Rockmart Ministerial Association, a volunteer with the Fish Creek Volunteer Fire Department, an EMT with the Rockmart Aragon Hospital Ambulance Service and was a member of the Rockmart Kiwanis Club. In 1974 he returned to Rome where he served the West Rome Church of Christ and the Oak Hill Church of Christ for twenty one years. After his retirement from full time ministry in 1995 he returned to the Rockmart Church of Christ where he was currently serving as an associate minister and Elder.

On October 1, 1981 the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home opened to serve the community of Rockmart and the surrounding area. This was another opportunity for him and his family to continue a legacy of service which is now in its' thirty-fourth year of service.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty two years, Doris B. Miller, Rockmart; four children: Stephen A. Miller and wife Claudene, Rockmart, Philip J. Miller and wife Terry, Silver Creek, Ruth Miller Fox and husband Jeff, Nashville, TN and Mary Miller Shamblin and husband, John, Cumming; eleven grandchildren: Jennifer Miller Mobbs (Adam), Michelle Miller Starling (B.J.), Valerie Miller Hopper (Nicholas), Amber Cason Estes (Matt), Jacob Fox (Melanie), Jessie Fox Herren (David), Chris Miller (Kristen), Jillian Shamblin Anderson (Will), Jenna Fox Tomberlin (Clark), Jackson Shamblin and Chet Miller; thirteen great grandchildren: Riley, Turner, Hunter, Chance, Millie, Marcy, Griffin, Bailey, Kinley, Andrew, Thomas, Emerson and Hudson; sister, Joy Miller Stewart and husband Reuben, Birmingham, AL; brother, Vernon Miller and wife Elaine, Rockmart; sister-in-law, Joyce Beard Burns and husband Clifford, Marietta and brother-in-law Fred Beard and wife Wynema, Gainesville, FL; a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. in the Oak Hill Church of Christ, Rome, with Minister Josh Clevenger and Mr. Walter Dundervill officiating. A eulogy was given by son-in-law John Shamblin. Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery of Rockmart with Col. Rhett M. Starnes officiating.

Grandsons and the husbands of granddaughters served as pallbearers and include: Jacob Fox, Chris Miller, Jackson Shamblin, Chet Miller, Adam Mobbs, B.J. Starling, Nicholas Hopper, Matt Estes, David Herren, Will Anderson and Clark Tomberlin.
